Later today, Promo Marketing‘s Threads newsletter comes out. It features leading apparel industry news. Instead of focusing on hard-hitting pieces in my blog, I thought I’d touch on some more whimsical fashion stories.
1. There’s No App for Fashion Sense
GQ listed the 15 worst-dressed techies. The men’s magazine can mock the signature looks of Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and other internet greats, but they have become part of their multi-million dollar brands, which is nothing to scoff at. They have even inspired faux and real fashion lines such as Mark by Mark Zuckerberg (Adidas sandals and tube socks included) and a T-shirt, jean and sweater line by Ralph Rucci (The designer denies the inspiration, but the similarity to Steve Jobs’ trademark look is uncanny).
2. Artistic Inspiration
H&M chose five young artists to showcase their work on fall designs. The gang not only created the pieces, but also modeled them for Refinery29. The T-shirts will arrive in stores in August. Meanwhile, H&M competitor Forever 21 is facing charges of stealing designs. Kudos to H&M for offering original pieces and helping struggling artists.
3. A Night with the Sartorial Elite
Anna Wintour’s brainchild Fashion’s Night Out is September 8. In its third year, the Vogue-hosted event offers parties, sales and celebrity sightings in cities from Milan to Lancaster, Pa. Scroll through the website to find deals parties in your area.
4. Dental Designs
Temporary tattoo promoters, take heed. There’s a burgeoning fad of tooth dyeing.
